Standard 2: Design and Develop Digital Age Learning and Experiences and Assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS-S.
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
Utilizing digital tools to promote student learning has been an ongoing task throughout my teaching. As I begin to learn more about the various tools available to students, I am able to better communicate and ensure learning with technology.
My Technology Integration Learning Plan (TILP) that I created in my Introduction to Technology in Schools course, is a great reflection of the various tools available for my students. I used Empressr, Glogster, and ZOHO Show as tools for my students to work collaboratively as well as independently to learn about the various viruses and bacteria. The class was to complete their own research and then present their information to the class. These various Web 2.0 tools allowed my students to work and gain knowledge for a subject matter as well as learn about the various tools available to them digitally.

In my Teaching Online Course class, we were asked to develop a lesson to teach virtually to some of our peers. In this course, I utilized the Blackboard Collaborate tool to have my students work interactively on an assignment. They were able to use the “whiteboard” feature to answer questions, communicate verbally with each other, and also view PowerPoint’s and Videos.

b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress.
Utilizing technology to allow students to become active in their learning and educational goals is a great tool to determine students success. Students who can set their own objectives and be an active part of their own learning, taking ownership is a wonderful way to ensure success for our students.
In my Technology to Enhance Learning course, I created a Concept Map that demonstrates my own understanding of how technology and student learning are related. This concept map connects the student’s learning goals, with the teacher’s role, learning assessments as well as learning activities.

Also in the Technology to Enhance Learning Course, we were asked to evaluate a teacher’s lesson found on the KITE website. We used a Technology Usage Assessment to determine how effective the lesson was with various factors. One factor that was focused on learning objectives with “real-world” learning, as well as how the student was able to set their own goals and be a main part of their own learning. In my Technology Assessment my case student did not do the best job with allowing the students to take ownership of their own learning. Through this process, I was able to learn ways of ensuring my lessons allow for ownership and interaction

c. Customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
As a special education teacher, my ability to consistently accommodate, modify, and adapt to diverse learners is part of my daily teaching. I believe that I am very good at assessing student’s learning quickly and adapt various strategies to ensure learning is taking place. One of the strategies I utilize often is the use of technology.
In my Teaching Online Courses class, I developed a lesson that was create for remediation of the topic of Measures of Central Tendency. It created the lesson with the idea that the students had already been taught the subject, but were struggling to successfully achieve a proficient level on an assessment. My SIS lesson included a variety of online tools including a video from YouTube, as well as various items that I have created to accommodate student’s needs. I used the Paint tool to develop various “Cheat Sheets” to help the students solve problems throughout my math class.

In my Technology to Enhance Learning course, I used the Technology Usage Assessment to determine a Self-Assessment on my own lesson. This was to determine meaningful learning, which demonstrates my understanding of diverse learning styles. Throughout my lesson, I teach to the multiple intelligence while also utilizing technology in my classroom.

d. Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
Assessments are a vital part of education. Both summative and formative, as well as formal and informal assessments should help determine proficiency in content goals, as well as areas of need. In my own classroom, I use a variety of tools to assess my students including simple exit tickets and student response systems.
In my Technology and Assessment I was asked to evaluate a online or virtual assessment for its usefulness as an assessment. The tool I assessed was Manga High which is an online game program that assesses basic understanding of content in Mathematics. It aligns to Common Core standards. I found that Manga High is a great tool that allows me to assess student’s learning as well as allow students to utilize technology.

Another way I utilize technology for an assessment tool is though the use of online blogging. I utilize blogging currently in my classroom with Edublogs. For my Technology Action Research Plan, I researched the effectiveness of classroom blogs as a means for assessment. I found that they can be very effective for a formative assessment of understanding, and also allow students to reflect. In my classroom, I utilize blogging as a form of “Exit Ticket” where I assess my own teaching; student’s current understanding of a topic as well as if the content and language objectives were achieved. Lastly, at least once a week, I use the blog for higher order thinking (HOT) questions and reflection.
